Thompson Thrift is entering the South Carolina market with the development of The Whitmore at Ingleside, a 327-unit, Class A multifamily community in North Charleston. Construction is slated to begin this month, with move-ins expected by November 2027. The development expands Thompson Thrift’s national footprint to 25 states and capitalizes the project through the Thompson Thrift 2026 Multifamily Development LP.
Unit and Community Features
The property spans nearly 19 acres and will offer a mix of studio, one-, two-, and three-bedroom apartments across three- and four-story buildings. Units are equipped with quartz countertops, stainless steel appliances, hardwood-style flooring, smart-home technology, full-size washers and dryers, walk-in closets, detached garages, and private patios, balconies, or yards.
Community amenities include a swimming pool, fitness center, pickleball court, pocket park, electric firepit, gathering areas, and grilling stations. Residents will also have access to a pet spa, two dog parks, and a social hub featuring billiards, a coffee bar, focus suites, and a conference room.
Location and Regional Context
The Whitmore at Ingleside is situated within the 1,500-acre Ingleside master-planned development. It sits near the recently completed Weber Boulevard interchange and Interstate 26, providing regional connectivity to downtown Charleston, Charleston International Airport, Palmetto Commerce Park, Joint Base Charleston, Mercedes-Benz Vans, and numerous other major employers.
Charleston is one of the Southeast’s fastest-growing markets, with major employers in aerospace, health care, advanced manufacturing, logistics, and life sciences investing billions in the area. Companies include Boeing, which is investing more than $1 billion to grow its 787 Dreamliner manufacturing campus in North Charleston. Volvo Cars is expanding its plant outside Charleston, a decision expected to add approximately 1,600 jobs. Keel, a defense manufacturer, is undertaking a $70 million expansion to create 170 new jobs, and Roper St. Francis Health is building a $1.2 billion, 328-bed hospital campus in North Charleston.
Thompson Thrift has been active in other markets recently. Last month, the company began development of Rivet, a 300-unit luxury community in Chelsea, Ala. Also last month, Thompson Thrift announced The Statesman, a 340-unit luxury property in Gallatin, Tenn., with first move-ins slated for November 2027. The company recently completed The Liliana, a 360-unit luxury apartment community in Pooler, Ga., and entered Nevada with the development of Argent Flats, a 273-unit community in Reno slated for move-ins in September 2027.
